A whole year has passed since the last Muizenberg Festival. Time has disappeared which has brought us to the final week leading up to the launch of the new and improved, Muizenberg Festival 2017! This year is going to be an explosion of entertainment, culture, art and many more local talents showcasing their brilliance! This year the Get Out, Get South team has been selected as the go to event calendar portal for the festival. We will be the team who keeps you up to date with what’s happening next and what you most definitely shouldn’t miss out on! We know there’s going to be an overload of events, dates, times, places to be, people to see... But we will make sure that we do all the thinking for you. We will make sure that in amongst all the noise, we will quiet it down, and make sure that you don’t miss a thing! We are in the final stretch leading up to this two week extravaganza of fun and entertainment! Enjoy! What was last year’s Muizenberg Festival like? The 2016 edition of the Muizenberg Festival was a culmination of our sea side town's brilliant wealth of creative and natural treasures. The week long programme represented the celebration of Muizenberg's diversity in musical expression as much as it was an honoring of the mountain, vlei and sea. We were treated to constant brilliance right from the morning through to the evening, each day of this wonderful festival, showcasing our diversity and awesomeness. Do we have any first time brands joining us? Each year is a collaboration of new things. We have a huge line-up of local artists who will be performing across multiple stages in the town. The best way to check out the line-up is to stay connected through the Get Out, Get South online event guide. This year sees us dividing the festival into multiple mini-festivals – from the Word Festival (talks and discussions around hot political and environmental topics) to the Film Festival, showcasing local film talent, to the Music Festival with an incredible line-up and the community Festival – incorporating various community projects. There is so much on the go! What were some of the favorites last year? The parade and the concert in the park, hosted on the last day of the festival are an absolute highlight for everyone. This is the culmination of the entire Muizenberg festival spirit into a single moment. A celebration of all the event hosts, and event participants and all that they have achieved and showcased for the last few weeks. Live music, artistic performances in the sunshine. Family fun for all. What is your goal as, Get Out, Get South, for the festival? Get Out, Get South aims to introduce its unique eventing platform to the community of the south, and create an ongoing central hub for activities in the South throughout the year. Our aim is always to create and drive community participation, connecting event hosts with the community. We believe this year will see 1000’s of people discovering new ways in which to connect with their audience and to have more successful outcomes with their engagement. We wanted to create something for our community and help us stay connected. Let's get going

The festival has begun and already the atmosphere in the town is a buzz with excitement. The first day highlight was the Pug Race held at the Muizenberg Rendezvous. What an incredible thing to watch. Bundles of chaos trying to be controlled like that had people in stitches. Never before did I think an event like this would attract such a crowd. Not to mention all the Pug costumes. Hilarious. We also had some music performances and an open evening at the Hive on Palmer road to introduce the festival and appreciate all the people who are involved in making this happen. Project Ripple kicked off their impromptu street performances with a dedication to water. Really something to watch. Monday saw the launch of the COMEDY FEST with an incredible open mic night and the comedic talent was insane!!! Wow, we have some funny people in the community. What can we expect this coming week? This week has got so much in store. The MUSIC FEST kicked off on Tuesday, the COMEDY FEST continues with fantastic performances. There are workshops and kids activities as part of the CHILDRENS FEST that are great ways to keep kids entertained though the school holidays. The ART FEST will see artists displaying and performing in and around Muizenberg. The FILM FEST is about showcasing local film makers talents. And the COMMUNITY FEST is a series of events run by community members that connect people, allowing them to experience the town as a local. We also have a WORD FEST which sees a host of speakers giving talks on very interesting topics as well as the ECO FEST designed to showcase some of the conscious living programs in and around the town. There have been more than 100 events listed during the 2 weeks festival, so there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy. Don’t miss out. How do we stay in touch? The best way to stay in touch is through the website, the online list of events and the ability to synchronise the calendars to your mobile devices or computers means that you will always have the info at your fingertips. We also run the PUSHED notifications as well as the WHATSAPP Broadcasts (save the number 0827626292 to your phone, send us a message, and we will start sending you broadcast messages) for people who want to receive more regular updates and reminders. We will add you to the list and send out WHATSAPP broadcast messages to the number – please note, this number is not monitored and messages sent to the number will not be answered, this is ONLY a broadcast system. For those of you who prefer the more traditional approach, we have an email service, that you can subscribe to on our website – simply sign up with your email address, verify it, and you will start to receive messages from us weekly. The festival kicks off on the 1 October and runs to the 15 October. We will be keeping you all in the loop! Let’s see what our founder had to say about this exciting news! What does the Founder of Get Out Get South say about this news? We are very excited to be working with the team from Muizenberg Festival. They have been hosting a successful show for the past few years, and each year we see more and more participation and events coming onto the schedule. This year the festival celebrates WATER. For us this is symbolic in that the flow of information, like the flow of water, is a fluid transition and that’s what Get Out, Get South's platform is all about. Get the message out to the people in the simplest way possible, drive event participation and connect the community. The festival represents a lot of the qualities that we stand for, and we are super excited to be creating a platform that works for them. What does this exciting news mean for Get Out, Get South? Muizenberg Festival is a once a year thing. People get together, have fun, build relationships and have a good time. Get Out, Get South wants to keep that festival spirit alive in the community throughout the year. Festival goers will now have a platform to engage with about other events in this area, events within their community, events that they can attend and celebrate together all year through. This is a great occasion for people to get familiar with the Get Out, Get South functionality and hopefully get people coming back for more. How do we keep up to date with the events? Events will be listed within the Muizenberg Festival calendar guide on the website www.getoutgetsouth.co.za – from here all the details including dates, times, prices and locations are accessible. You can synchronize this calendar with your phones calendar, or sign up to the PUSHED notifications channel, or whatsapp broadcast message list or even to the email notifications group. These will all enable the information to come to you. How do we get involved? Keep checking back to the website and to the Muizenberg Festival website for news as the events are unfolded. There is going to be 2 weeks of amazing things to do in the area, and there will be a lot of fun to be had. If you thought last year was awesome, you are in for a treat this year! We have a line-up that will keep you captivated and keep you coming back for more. If you haven’t had the honor of experiencing the Muizenberg Festival just yet, we have thrown together our personal guide- Muizenberg Festival 101. This is definitely not a sprint, it’s a marathon of entertainment for two weeks. What we can say is that the organisers have made sure that we step it up a level this year, leaving no unanswered questions. What is the Muizenberg Festival all about? The Muizenberg Festival is a celebration of the people, the culture and the lives that we live in Muizenberg and the surrounds. It’s a community festival that brings people together, connects artists and performers with the community and showcases the extraordinary things that individuals and communities are capable of when working together. But mostly it’s a celebration and a chance for people to get together and have some fun. This year’s festival is titled “Celebrating Water” with Muizenberg being very much a water town (sea and river) and with water such a hot topic for Capetonians we feel it is a very fitting underlying theme this year. Water is also synonymous with fluidity and flow and being such a dynamic and diverse community, we feel that our community, like water, is a living, flowing, connected existence that is becoming rarer in a modern world. What makes the Muizenberg Festival stand out? The main thing is that the festival is driven through community participation. It’s the people that create the festival, it’s their own expression and input that makes the festival unique. Everything is done in a collaborative approach that includes individuals, non-profit organisations, charities, musicians, artists and businesses. Everyone celebrates in their own way, adding to the overall expression of what Muizenberg means to them. What can we expect from the festival? There is a whole bunch of activities going on. From music events, to comedy events, a mini-film festival, community walks, township experiences, night time parties, talks on many subjects. There is even a pug dash!! The scouts are doing some amazing things on Zandvlei and we are also going to be having a performing parade through the streets and concert in the Muizenberg Park – there is an abundance of activities suited for the whole family. How do we keep in touch? www.getoutgetsouth.co.za – this web based platform is a guide of events for the Muizenberg Festival – everything is listed there, and the best thing is you can subscribe to the calendars, so that the events load directly to your cell-phone’s calendar or your outlook calendars. There are also a number of notification mechanism we are putting in place – PUSH notifications, WHATSAPP broadcasts, EMAIL – chose the mechanism that suits you. Think of this as an art. We are talking the collaboration of the finer side of the south peninsula’s art, culture and ultimately a mass of unique experiences. If you love the community culture of Muizenberg, this festival is the best show case we have to offer for those looking in. Stay in touch via social media where we will be slowly releasing the grand launch of the Muizenberg Festival. Join the community. We're Back! With Cape Town becoming the number one tourist destination in the world there has been a ripple effect of innovative ideas shooting up, showcasing this beautiful city. With no shortage of extraordinarily unique and wonderful things to do in and around Cape Town, and even more so in the lesser known South Peninsula. In fact, some would say the South Peninsula community have been instrumental in re-writing the scene of Cape entertainment and the show casing of our local wonders. This is the heart of what Get Out, Get South is all about. Think of Get Out, Get South as your very own Google for local events and entertainment in the south peninsula of Cape Town! Have you ever missed out on an epic event because you had no idea it was happening? Why is it that some people seem to have the ultimate events guide, while some of us only hear about what we missed out on? Get Out, Get South is now giving us all the upper hand. Consider this your own personal play book of what to do, where to go and who and what to see in the South Peninsula of Cape Town. Let’s get to know the heart of the south... We picked the brain of the brains behind Get Out, Get South. Let’s step into his world! What is Get Out, Get South all about? Get Out, Get South is about providing a platform for people to showcase their events, their creativity, and their art. It’s a platform for people to get the message out, to drive event participation and to engage with people to create a more connected community. What makes Get Out, Get South stand out? Unlike other event guide websites or platforms, Get Out, Get South is entirely dedicated to the South Peninsula. It’s designed by locals, for locals. Users of the website are not polluted with stupid memes or videos, there is no advertising and best of all you can synchronize the event guide direct to your phone calendar. How does Get Out, Get South work? Get Out, Get South uses a number of key technologies that make things like Facebook and other older eventing sites redundant. The event calendar can synchronize directly with your own IPhone or android calendar. Even with your google or outlook calendar. We also have mechanism in place to help keep people informed of what’s happening. Things like the PUSHED app, which sends PUSH notifications of events, EMAIL alerts of things in the area, and now just recently WHATSAPP broadcasting. If there is something happening out there, we want people to know about it, and to get involved, through whatever mechanisms are available to them. Why would you want to list an event on the Get Out, Get South platform? The key to promoting an event is to get as much coverage for an event. Facebook is one way, posters or print media is another. Get Out, Get South is setup to enable people to list an event for FREE. It’s easy to use and anyone can do it. The event is then promoted through social media accounts, email alerts, push notifications and WhatsApp broadcasting. It’s simple and gets the message directly to the people who want to know what’s happening. Traditional social media platforms are so clogged with spam and fake news, that people are losing trust in these and you are also competing for the attention of users with 1000’s of messages. People who visit the Get Out, Get South website, have a single purpose in mind. They are looking for things to do in the south. Do you have any big news coming our way? YES!! We have been working with the Muizenberg Festival guys on how to showcase all the amazing things that will be taking place from 1 Oct to 15 Oct at this year’s festival. The Get South platform has been created to have a specific FESTIVAL events program that is a live listing on events during the area. We hope to partner with other festivals and events at a later stage to see how we can best create a live festival guide to give party goers access to information on the go, as it happens. How do we get involved as a user and as a company? As a USER – save the website to your home screen on your phone (this gives you easy access to the site). Synchronize the calendars with your calendar, or sign up for one of the notifications mechanisms. It’s that simple. You will then be notified when events are happening in your area. Or you can just browse the event calendar at your leisure. If you are planning to host an event, then just simply click the LIST FREE EVENT button, and complete the steps. Your event is usually live within 2-4hrs. Simple. It’s time to get connected to the ultimate entertainment guide for the South Peninsula!
